How the tools work, which formats they handle, and where your images go. Short answer on that last one: nowhere.
Is this really free?
Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no watermarks and no hidden charges. You can resize as many images as you like at no cost.
Are my images uploaded to your servers?
No. Your images never leave your device. All processing happens locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. You can verify this yourself by opening your browser’s network tab while you use the tool — no image data is transmitted.
What image formats are supported?
You can upload JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (from an iPhone), BMP, TIFF, GIF, AVIF and SVG. You can save the result as JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF or PDF, so the tool doubles as a format converter.
What’s the maximum file size?
Because processing happens in your browser, the practical limit is your device’s available memory rather than a fixed cap. Most devices handle images up to around 50 MB comfortably. Very large files may be slow on older phones, and the AI background remover is more demanding — keep those images under about 20 MB.
Will resizing reduce my image quality?
Making an image smaller preserves quality very well; the tool uses high-quality interpolation, so the result stays sharp. Enlarging is different — new pixels have to be invented, so some softness is unavoidable in any tool. Save as PNG if you need a truly lossless result.
Do I need to choose a quality level?
No, there is no quality slider to get wrong. The tool encodes at a high quality level by default. If you need a specific file size, tick "Compress to target file size" and enter a KB figure — it will then find the highest quality that fits under your limit and tell you if the target is unreachable.
What does "Lock aspect ratio" do?
When it is on, changing the width adjusts the height automatically (and vice versa) so the original proportions are kept. This stops your image coming back stretched or squashed. Turn it off only when you deliberately want to distort the dimensions.
Can I resize multiple images at once?
Yes. Select several files and the same dimensions, format and target size are applied to all of them, then you can download the whole set as a single ZIP file.
Which format should I choose?
JPEG for photographs and for most upload portals — it gives the smallest files. PNG for screenshots, graphics with text, or anywhere you need transparency. WebP for your own website, since it compresses better than JPEG at the same visual quality, though some platforms still reject it.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. It works on any device with a modern browser — iPhone, Android, tablet or desktop. There is no app to download.
What image size do I need for social media?
The built-in presets cover the most common ones: Instagram 1080×1080, Facebook 1200×630, YouTube thumbnail 1280×720, plus 1920×1080 and 800×600. Click a preset to fill in the dimensions. Our social media image sizes guide lists the current dimensions for every major platform.
Can I resize an image to an exact KB size?
Yes, and it is one of the most-used features. Tick "Compress to target file size", enter your limit in KB, and the tool re-encodes at refined quality levels to land just under it. There are also dedicated guides for 15, 20, 30, 50, 100 and 200 KB targets, which open the tool with the target already set.
